Muammar's gone round the bend.

Either that, or the Good Twin has taken over for a while.

Gaddafi asks for Bigley's release

"I launch an appeal to the hostage's kidnappers, because his family has turned to us. We ask them to free this poor Briton," Colonel Gaddafi said.

Of course, he's also asking us to release Iraqi prisoners - one must be fair, after all.

Wait a second - how, again, did he get involved?

On Tuesday, Colonel Gaddafi's son said he had been contacted by the Bigley family and asked for help.

Oh. Right. Well, sure. Libya would be the first country I'd call to help negotiate with terrorists.

I know Gaddafi has worked since the '90s to rebuild his relationships with Europe and the U.S. I realize he has resolved Lockerbie, and disclosed his nuclear program with an unprecedented offer to disarm. Still, you must forgive me if I don't trust so easily.

After all, some people have said that they've changed; some enough to receive a Nobel Peace Prize. And then they've gone back to their terrorist ways.

For Mr. Bigley's sake, I hope this works. I also hope we keep a close eye on the Colonel, no matter which twin is in charge.
